Compétition nationale de sculptures de neige au Rendez-vous Bal de Neige à Gatineau / Ottawa du 31 janvier -4 février 2017 dans le cadre des célébrations Canada 150

National snow sculptures competition in Gatineau / Ottawa at the Winterlude  Carnival from January 31st – Feb 4th 2017

L’équipe des SNOWHACKERS fut sélectionnée pour représenter la région de l’Atlantique du Canada en cette grande célébration du 150 ième anniversaire de la Confédération. Ce rendez-vous national de sculpture sur neige aura lieu du 31 janvier au 4 février prochain au Parc Jacques-Cartier à Gatineau. 

 Le Bal de Neige est  la fête de la capitale en hiver à Ottawa-Gatineau chaque année auquel nous avons eu la chance de participer en 2009 et 2010. Cette année, pour souligner le 150e anniversaire du Canada, j’ai choisi de faire une pièce intitulée ‘’Prise du jour’’ (Catch of the Day) qui représente l’hiver dans notre coin de l’Atlantique. Je voulais également faire le lien entre les provinces de l’est du Canada et cela avec un sens d’humour (voir pièces-jointes).

Le Domaine des flocons du Bal de Neige, situé au parc Jacques-Cartier de Gatineau, est le plus grand terrain de jeu hivernal en Amérique du Nord!  Les sculptures du Rendez-vous national de sculptures de neige seront d’une grandeur de 16’ de hauteur (max 18’) x 12’ de largeur x12’ de profondeur. Celles-ci seront illuminées en soirée et je peux vous assurez que cet endroit est magique et admiré des visiteurs, car les sculptures sont éclairées par une myriade de lumières multicolores. Chaque année, plus de 600 000 personnes participent aux activités de Bal de Neige – dont la plupart sont gratuites.

Mon but premier est de représenter la région de l’Acadie et c’est une première pour nous de représenter la région de l’Atlantique dans le cadre du 150^e.  Cette compétition nationale est d’avantage un évènement très important dans ma carrière d’artiste donc veuillez nous suivre sur notre blogue pour en s’avoir d’avantage

Team NB, so called the SNOWHACKERS have represented the province of New Brunswick at several snow sculptures national competitions over the years. We have also represented our country, Canada at the International level at the Québec Winter Carnival competition in Quebec City in 2013.

My team was selected this year to represent the Atlantic region for the Canada’s great celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Confederation. This national snow sculpture event will take place from January 31st to February 4th at the Jacques-Cartier Park in Gatineau. It is an immense honor for us and a prestige to be able to represent this year, the Atlantic region because only 5 teams were chosen for the event.

The Winterlude festivities will take place in the Winter Capital of Ottawa-Gatineau region and we’ve had the honour in 2009 and 2010 to participate in great gigantic event.

This year, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, I chose to make a snow sculpture named “Catch of the Day” which will represents the winter in our east coast provinces of the Atlantic region. I wanted to connect the eastern provinces with a sense of humor (see attachments) for this magnificent National Snow Sculpture Rendezvous!

Snowflake Kingdom is a gigantic playground, the largest winter playground in North America! The giant snow sculptures will be 16 feet in height (max 18′) x 12 ‘wide x 12’ deep. These will be illuminated in the evening and I can assure you that this place is magical and admired by all visitors because the snow sculptures are illuminated by a myriad of multicolored lights. Each year, more than 600,000 people participate in Winterlude activities – most of which are free of charge.

Joining me in this major project, my brother Charles Léger who have participated in the Winterlude nationals snow sculptures in 2009 & 2010, as well as Léandre Thibodeau who joined the team during our last 2 years of national competitions. Our goal is to represent the region of l’Acadie with pride and Canada’s 150^th is no exception because it is a very important event for my artist career.
